Cooper Specialised Handling Ltd, the equipment supply division of Cooper Group Holdings Ltd, has announced a new property initiative to complement the supply of their extensive range of port handling equipment. The Company have taken a new thirty thousand square foot facility in the Harwich International Port to act as a machine receiving and PDI centre prior to despatch to customer’s sites.
The new facility will also act as a machine repair and refurbishment centre to facilitate in-house repairs via a dedicated workshop team thus enhancing Cooper’s after-sales portfolio further still.
As David Cooper, Executive Director of the parent group, explains “There are a number of benefits to locating in Harwich given its RoRo service to Europort in Rotterdam and by extension to our principal suppliers in northern Germany and the Nordic Countries”. David continued “Prior to this facility we would drive equipment direct to customer sites on multiple trailers and build on-site in full view of our customer. We can now build inside our new facility, away from the effects of wind in a controlled environment and deliver a complete machine to the customer which is ready to operate once unloaded”.
It is envisaged the machines will be shipped through Europort on an unaccompanied service and delivered on Mafi Trailers to Cooper’s new facility prior to build. This will bring efficiencies within the supply chain but moreover, customers will no longer have to facilitate the build process on their own site and the inconvenience and compliance that goes with that.
Cooper’s significant fleet of rental machines will also use the new Harwich facility for post and pre-rental checks whereby all machines will be stored inside in between rentals. This is, according to Cooper, a significant quality differentiator in having machines not being weathered unnecessarily whilst they await their next rental.
