At Cooper Specialised Handling we adopt a consultative approach to business. This is because we believe it’s vital to understand each individual customer’s needs and appreciate the operational challenges they face in order to deliver an efficient and cost-effective handling solution.
We are therefore delighted to have completed a £1.5million deal to supply Bristol Port Company, Britain’s most centrally located deep sea port, with ten high specification Konecranes forklift trucks.
During the process we held several meetings with the port before developing an equipment specification that would satisfy its specific operational, safety and maintenance requirements.
To provide increased flexibility, one of our proposals was to modify the Terminal West system to accommodate the forks of a variety of equipment manufacturers and counter the lack of uniformity of fork dimensions on big machines. With the capability to fit its larger trucks with smaller forks, this move effectively increases the size of Bristol Port Company’s small truck fleet.
On our advice, the Konecranes forklifts were specified with heavy duty mast sections and finished with extra-thick paint to extend their working life. We also recommended fitting 180 degree rotating seats with steering logic.
Since the safety of the truck operator was a top priority, the machines were also specified with extra protection in the cab. When transporting paper reels, for example, it will help to guard against injury in the, albeit unlikely, event that a reel was to fall from a height of 7m.
We are delighted to be developing our partnership with Bristol Port Company and this key contract is a further example of how the Cooper team works closely with customers to fully understand their materials handling challenges and find innovative ways to overcome difficult application issues.
