Cooper Specialised Handling Ltd have won a prestigious award at the FLTA Awards for excellence 2019 at a lavish function on March 30thin Telford. The award was an innovation award for the Sany H9 reachstacker with its revolutionary on-board energy recovery system which not only saves fuel significantly, offers faster lifting speeds that aid productivity.
The Sany H9 is revolutionary in that it has two additional cylinders mounted lower down the boom which sit behind the driver’s eye. On the downward motion, the combined weight of load, spreader and boom (a little over 50 tonnes weight) charges nitrogen-filled accumulators that stores the energy created with the descending load. Once the operator selects lift-mode, these same cylinders reverse and release the energy to offer additional lifting power to the standard lift cylinders. This can be as much as the equivalent to 70kw of engine power and will save as much as 35% in fuel. This could equate to 14000 litres of fuel per year if working 2000 operating hours.
However, the benefits do not stop there. With additional available lifting power, the main lift cylinders afford smaller diameter lift cylinders so with equal pressure acting on a smaller surface area equates to greater oil flow thus enhancing lift speeds and productivity by as much as 2 additional containers per hour.
Speaking on behalf of Cooper SH, David Cooper, Executive Director said “On behalf of both Coopers and Sany, we are absolutely thrilled that this technology has been recognised by the FLTA jury. Volumes of container handlers in the UK lift truck industry are miniscule compared to mainstream forklifts so the jury should be congratulated for their broad approach as well as their appreciation of this technology”. Cooper continued “Sany are today the largest reach stacker manufacturer in the world in terms of units produced each year having only entering the market just 13 years ago. However, apart from being a prolific manufacturer, they have also shown market-leading innovation for which they should be congratulated”
Celebrating its 25thyear, the FLTA award night is the only recognised industry awards and recognises the achievements of people and companies over the previous 12-months. Of the 4-major awards, the Innovation award is the most revered and whilst the H9 was nominated for the environment award as well, the jury clearly identified the H9 amongst a high calibre, high quality selection of 4 shortlisted nominees as the outright winner in the Innovation category.
