Stamford Storage Specifies SANY

Cooper Specialised Handling Ltd, has delivered a Sany SRSC4535G reachstacker and it has entered service at Stamford Storage, near Peterborough.

Stamford Storage is part of the Heys Group and has been operating for more than forty years. It remains a family cultured business with interests in modular buildings and container sales and hire, warehousing, storage, and property. Whilst based in the east of England, Stamford Storage cover the whole of the UK with a customer base that includes national and international clients. Their site at Essendine covers approximately 18 acres with 90,000 sq ft of covered storage with local and national distribution through the use of their own vehicles and couriers, from a single box to a complete articulated load.

In a highly significant move, the contract for supply of the Sany reachstacker represents the first time they have not specified Scandinavian-sourced equipment in their 40-year history.

The new SRSC4535G, is the medium-sized Sany reachstacker model with a wheelbase of 6.5 metres offers 45 tonnes of lifting capacity. For stacking the second row of containers, the machine offers sufficient lifting capacity (35 tonnes) for all standard containers. Its 19 tonnes of lifting capacity mean that stacking containers with an average load in a third row remains highly feasible.

The SRSC4535G features an 11-litre Volvo engine, Dana 4-speed transmission and Kessler D102 drive axle. The machine is also supplied with Sany’s unique sliding rear ballast to enhance residual capacity without having to slow the operation down with jacks.  Using the movable counterweight, will activate an extra tonne of lifting capacity in the second or third row.

Other features on the Sany machines include a hydraulic sliding cabin, heads-up display as well as an Elme 817 top lift spreader, complete with Elme’s ‘soft landing’ system that softens the last 150mm of twist lock engagement.

George Heys, founder and owner of Stamford Storage approached Coopers for assistance after he had acquired a machine from his incumbent supplier that proved to have insufficient second-row capacity which brought a stalemate which the customer eventually resolved himself. This cleared the way to invest in the new Sany SRSC4535 but with some assurances from Cooper that the machine would lift second row ‘as advertised’ This has since been satisfied and this is an application where the sliding ballast has made a real difference.

George added, “The fact that Coopers are a family-owned and family-run business represents the greatest appeal of all and which is why I wanted to create a long-term working relationship with them.”

Martin Dale (Sales Manager for CSH) said “I felt saddened to learn that George had felt let down by his incumbent supplier and felt compelled to assist in any way I could.  During this whole process, I gave a promise to the customer that we would supply the new Sany 4535G to site and if they were not completely happy, we would remove the machine at no cost to Stamford Storage.  Knowing that the machine we had specified would more than achieve their operational expectations, I had no doubt at all that this would be the machine’s forever home.”

The SRSC4535G has more than enough capacity with the additional specification that was included for their operations such as reverse camera and distance sensor, amplified steering, central greasing, trainer seat, 30ft stop and climate control AC.  Martin finishes by saying, “I look forward to having a close working relationship with George and his team.”

The newly purchased SANY SRSC4535G reachstacker was safely delivered to site in December 2020 and following a short build, was commissioned and put into service immediately.
